Christmas weekend in Georgia was truly wonderful for Georgian ski resorts. Officially was open brand new 6 chair ski lift by Doppelmayr at Gudauri Ski Resort, Poma ski lifts at Svaneti (Tetnuldi) and Doppelmayr’s two ski lifts Bakuriani (Mitarbi) ski resorts.
December 23, a new ski lift named Shino was open in Gudauri. This will be the third new ski lift added to the seven already operational ski lifts at the resort.
About 20 million GEL (about $7.19 million/€6.89 million*) was invested to build the new Shino ski lift, the PM Kvirikashvili said.
The next day, on December 24, three new ski lifts was open at Tetnuldi resort in Svaneti, and ski season in Tetnuldi started same day, so feel free to visit.
Christmas day was great as after 30 years later iconic and popular in USSR ski resort Mitarbi (Bakuriani grand domain) starter to get back his name in ski resorts industry.
Before you get to Bakuriani historical Borjomi-Bakuriani narrow gauge railway got it’s new life.
This historic narrow gauge railway line operates more than 100 years. Crossing on its journey ‘Kukushka’ train passes along a bridge designed by French engineer Alexandre Gustave Eiffel under the order of the Russian Imperial Romanov family. The bridge construction was brought to Georgia and installed over Tsemistskali River in 1902.
The state allocated 48 million GEL to finance the Kokhta-Mitarbi ski lift project, and New Mitarbi, a private investor, will now invest 70 million GEL to develop tourism infrastructure in Mitarbi. This will mark one of the largest investments in the revival of ski tourism in Georgia.

Biathlon track, Ski jumping and hockey hall will be ready in next two years.
